CYFD Honors Five Employees of the Month for June 2010

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) and Cabinet Secretary Bill Dunbar have announced five recipients of its divisional Employee of the Month awards for June 2010.

The commended employees are Soledad Martinez from Early Childhood Services (ECS), Denise Mathis of Protective Services (PS), and Gabriel Romero, Phillip Parnell and Michelle Montoya of Juvenile Justice Services (JJS).

Soledad Martinez, a program manager in the Office of Child Development in Santa Fe, has been with CYFD for 20 years. With a reputation as a true advocate and champion of young children, she has helped to bring cutting-edge infant mental health and home visiting training to clinicians, social workers and other therapists in New Mexico.

Denise Mathis is a client service agent (CSA) in the Grant County Protective Services office. She is credited with revising the parent/child visitation program and establishing guidelines that are now part of the statewide training manual for CSAs. She is also noted for her guidance as a targeted case management documentor, ensuring that permanency planning records are up-to-date and compliant.

Michelle Montoya serves as a secretary at the Youth Diagnostic and Development Center (YDDC) in Albuquerque. Her initiative, organization and leadership helped make YDDC’s recent Bowling for Kids project a success.

Phillip Parnell, a recreation director at Camino Nuevo Youth Center in Albuquerque, is honored for his outstanding work ethic and attitude. Parnell is noted for his willingness to assist staff and clients with everyday chores and for taking on tough assignments with a calm and relaxing demeanor.

Gabriel Romero is a youth care specialist supervisor at Carlsbad Juvenile Residential Center. He is recognized as a positive role model who, in a time of staff shortages, often covers shifts in order that line staff can have time off with their families. He is also noted for his excellent communication and encouragement for other staff members.
