CYFD Resource:

Below is a list of behavioral health providers and other important contacts that we have gathered at CYFD who may be able to assist children and families in the wake of widespread fires across the state. You may also download and print this resource guide.

Please check with individual providers and/or your health insurance plan to confirm any costs that may be associated with receiving services.

You will also find general resources for parents/families to discuss disasters with children.

Call 833-550-5100 to speak with a CYFD specialist for assistance with: Voluntary Placement of Children into Foster Care, Child Protective Services, Adoption Care, Resource Parent Training and Support, Juvenile Probation and Family Support, Children & Youth Behavioral Health Services. To report suspected abuse or neglect, please call 855-333-SAFE (7233) or #SAFE (#7233) from a cell phone.

Disaster SNAP

At the governor’s request, the state has received approval for the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) for five New Mexico counties. These benefits are available to low-income residents affected by the wildfires. Approximately 27,500 residents may apply who work or live in the following five counties: Colfax, Lincoln (ZIP codes 88345 and 88312), San Miguel, Mora and Valencia (ZIP code 87002). Experiencing a destructive wildfire can be devastating. This guide was written to help New Mexico communities recover after wildfire. It includes information on how to mobilize your community, a list of resources available to communities and individuals for assistance, and a technical guide with information about post-fire treatments to address the catastrophic effects of a wildfire on the land and to prepare for potential flooding.     If you or a loved one is experiencing any kind of emotional crisis, mental health or substance use concern, you can find help 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by calling the New Mexico Crisis and Access Line or Peer- to-Peer Warmline. https://nmcrisisline.com/

  • Include children in planning for an emergency. Teach them how to get help and what to do in different situations. Practice your household disaster plan with your children and quiz them about preparedness information. Attached link provides information of what every child should know in the event of a disaster, provide guidance to parents of important knowledge regarding children’s schools and daycares regarding emergency plans and other important information to help prepare for disasters/emergency evacuations.  https://www1.nyc.gov/site/em/ready/kids.page

 

  • The Child Welfare Services and Disaster Planning and Response Unit (DPRU) was created in 2021 and falls under the Children’s Services Quality Management Branch (CSQMB) and collaborates with the 58 counties to establish an effective process for creating, activating, and operating in an emergency and disaster preparedness plan as it relates to Children.   • Emergency planning with children. “Children are positive influencers, can become leaders and can be confident during an emergency”. Youth preparedness and including youth in emergency management is an essential part of engaging the whole community.   • For more specific materials that can be downloaded or printed, look to ACF Office of Trafficking in Persons or the DHS Blue Campaign. Both sets of resources are available in several languages, and are very detailed with concrete actions community members and social service providers (for example) can take if they suspect someone is being trafficked or are concerned about trafficking in persons.
